House Hunters

On the air for more than 20 years, House Hunters transcended from average reality TV hit to bona fide pop culture icon, getting everything from the parody treatment on SNL to making the meme rounds on social media.  Being part of the team that has kept such an institution relevant (and profitable, with ratings that consistently rank us in the top 10 of all cable shows) has been an exciting and gratifying chapter of my career.  Equally as important, House Hunters has long been lauded for its diversity and inclusivity, evidence that we achieved our goal of presenting an accurate snapshot of America by following buyers irrespective of their age, race, sexual orientation or location.  My episodes specifically have been highlighted in the Washington Post, featured in Network advertising, and roasted on Reddit 😂 .

Flip or Flop

As “house flipping” took American suburbs by storm, we wanted to put a face to the movement and capture the excitement that comes from community revitalization.  Following formerly-married partners Tarek and Christina, viewers experience the peaks and valleys of the renovation-for-profit industry.  A ratings smash-hit for HGTV, the show’s success underscored for me the importance of being at the right place at the right time, and not hesitating to capitalize on that opportunity.  In the entertainment industry, just like real estate, timing is everything.

House Hunters Renovation

Many viewers felt robbed of closure when OG House Hunters faded out over the nervous smiles of the plucky young couple who just spent their life savings on a fixer-upper, and so House Hunters Renovation was born.  This series was not afraid to get its hands dirty, ripping up floors, demolishing entire bathrooms, and showing what it takes to make sketched-on-paper dreams a reality.  To capture all the action episodes ran a full hour, and this added time investment always paid off with some truly killer Before and After transformations.  Sometimes you just gotta give the people what they want 😎 .

Digital / Social Media

The Ex-Box

This LA Webfest feature highlights the perils of dating and relationships while breaking into the entertainment industry.  Produced by friends who met behind the scenes on the set of 30 Rock and featuring some familiar faces (such as Office Space’s Richard Riehle), this 10-part scripted series offered me the opportunity to cut multiple, intersecting story arcs from start to finish.  And after posting the series to DailyMotion, we quickly racked up tens of thousands of views, earning us a feature spot on their main page.

Sleepwalker

Cameron Scott Davis, lead character designer for the blockbuster Guitar Hero video game franchise, set out to create an etherial universe that centered around young hero Finnegan Wakes.  Intended as a series of illustrated books that an audience could grow with, we created a crowd funding campaign to get the first book on shelves, and ended up smashing our goals - getting 154% funded with weeks to spare.  Aside from that success, what I enjoyed most about this graphics-intensive project was that nobody told me to tone down the filters and transitions 😁.

Cooking with Chef Brad

Celebrity Chef Brad Miller (of Food Truck Nation fame) is in his element, instructing the Five Star culinary team on proper techniques and practices when preparing a curated menu. While corporate teaching series are not normally known for high production value, producer/director Dave Swuz of Springfield Films elevates the medium with dramatic lighting and fresh camera angles, making a potentially monotonous viewing experience exponentially more watchable. This willingness to bring everything to the table, no matter the subject or size of the project, is a lesson that I’ve adopted and employ to this day.
